Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the project is to carry out a research programme on the computation of the current induced on a thin wire by a transient electromagnetic pulse. This involves solving a complicated coupled system of PDEs and retarded potential integral equations (RPIEs). We plan to develop methods for the exact kernel form of the RPIEs since we expect that these should prove to more accurate and reliable than existing schemes (which use simpler reduced kernel form). We shall also carry out a full Fourier stability analysis for these new schemes, investigate their convergence properties, and attempt to relate their behaviour to schemes for the frequency domain (time harmonic) problem.
