Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will research of requirements analysis methods for virtual reality simulations for command and control applications, and apply the method to a case study of operator console design. A requirements taxonomy and scenario framework will be specified for different design problems, e.g. basic perception, comprehension of information displays, interaction and user's tasks, and group working in control rooms. The research will investigate problems of systems integration by developing scenario based method for requirements analysis of group interworking in Marconi OCD (operational concept demonstrator) environment. Futhermore it will also contribute to integration within the design process by improving the co-ordination between prototype development and design activities. The main focus of this proposal will be to design VR simulations so that key human factors and functional issues are exposed during requirements walkthroughs. Prototype VR technology will be developed using the guidelines, and novel 'immersive scenario' VR-RE methods will be created and evaluated with case studies of requirements capture on the Astute submarine project.
