Summary on Grant Application Form |
PMD compensation is at present on the most important, and so far the most intractable, problems that urgently need to be solved to enable the breakthrough to be made to bit rates of 10Gb/s and higher in long haul optically amplified transmission systems. The applicant has invented a novel technique to solve this problem which appears to be capable of providing the first really satisfactory solution to the problem. An application to patent this technique was filled by the University of Essex on 30.10.98. The proposed research will experimentally demonstrate the feasibility of this new technique.
