Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal is concerned the establishment of a mathematical model and the development of associated software. It aims at a quantitative understanding of the basic physical processes occurring in a microwave generated plasma jet suitable for material cleaning, cutting and welding. Emphasis is given to the transfer of power from electromagnetic field to the plasma. Attention is paid to the plasma-surface interaction by investigating the boundary layer adjacent to the work piece. The computer simulated results will be compared with the measurements of temperature and the operational parameters of the system. Upon the verification of the mathematical model, computer simulated results will be used to establish an inverse model, based on artificial neural networks, for the optimum control of the plasma jet system.
