Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research aims to investigate the development of a new form of cathode for CRT applications, with operational principles similar to the existing high performance impregnated cathode but utilising state of the art materials processing technology, based upon emulsion and/or molecular templating techniques to allow improved emission characteristics, and most significantly, substantially reducing the manufacturing costs compared to existing systems. The templating techniques will be used to access closely controlled pore morphology and size distribution together with a wider range of pore sizes than currently achievable, providing potential enhancements in lifetime and emission characteristics, whilst the use of these low temperature process routes based upon wet chemical precursors whould allow the high cost, multi-stage manufacturing route of the current impregnated cathode to be superseded by a simpler integrated approach.
