This collaborative research aims to build on the ground-breaking work of Goriely and Tabor on the dynamics of twisted and writhing elastic filaments by a) building models for Bacillus subtilis and streptomycetes, b) examining the typical behaviours that one can expect in the solutions of the relevant order parameter equations.
