Summary on Grant Application Form
Due to the inherent network delays within the Internet, the physical location of execution is highly significant to the overall performance. Our proposal permits computation to occur safely in arbitrary locations, through the introduction of security domains anywhere within the existing network. Security domains are hosted on inexpensive network nodes, which permit the flexible dynamic placement of code and data, by authorised users, in a secure and simple manner. These machines are not intended to replace existing computers, instead they may be used to complement existing machines to increase their effectiveness. The resultant distributed architecture is able to integrate with and enhance the use of HTTP, XML, Java, CORBA and DCOM resulting in an order of magnitude improvement in the efficacy of all Internet devices.
