Summary on Grant Application Form |
A new Oxford Cryostream cooler will replace the existing low-temperature equipment on a Bruker AXS SMART CCD diffractometer, in order to give reliable and efficient low-temperature data collection and remove the weakest component in an otherwise very productive and effective crystallographic set-up. Low temperature data collection will be used routinely for all samples unless there are specific reasons against it. Temperatures down to about 100K, unattainable reliably with the existing equipment, will be used to deal with frequent problems of high atomic displacements and disorder, and for charge density investigations. The equipment will be used to support a wide range of projects in organic, inorganic and organometallic chemistry, including collaborations within and outside the department, with special emphasis on catalyst systems and their precursors, supramolecular chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and reactive organometallic intermediates.
