Summary on Grant Application Form
Improved user interaction and visualisation techniques are required to support globally distributed partners involved in the machine design and control lifecycle. This project will produce a media rich environment that is distributed across partner sites and demonstrates selected lifecycle scenarios for machine design and control. It will also provide a comparison of the usage of the multimedia environment with current best practice. The novelty within the project is the focus of partner interaction around common executable visualisation of machine components. Adopting the component-based approach enables end users to interact seamlessly with both model representation and the real machines. In addition the project will address outstanding research issues in systems integration and human factors. From a systems integration viewpoint the research will address how to integrate media rich lifecycle tools into information within the environment. Human factors issues to be addressed include how to realise effective user interaction and appropriate data presentation formats.
