Summary on Grant Application Form
Funding is requested for the appointment of a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant over a three year period, who will assist in the research project summarised below.A primary goal is to prove large distance asymptotic equivalence, in terms of value distribution over energy, of logarithmic derivatives of solutions of the Schrodinger equation at real spectral parameter, and the Dirichlet m-function on a semi-infinite and variable interval. Value distribution techniques and the theory of pseudodifferential operators will be used to determine error bounds for the spectral measure associated with Schrodinger operators on the half-line, using values of the potential on a given finite interval. Numerical and algebraic computing, involving the solution of linear and nonlinear differential equations, will be used to investigate a number of cases, identified as being of particular interest. A further aim is to discover the complete spectral asymptotics, over the absolutely continuous spectrum of the transfer matrix for the Schrodinger equation.
