Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will investigate a scalable user interface coupling technique that provides efficient and effective co-operative user interface adaptation across both implicit and explicit constraints. This will support not only cosmetic changes to individual shared user interfaces, but also more radical changes to the interaction they allow. This approach drastically increases the range of potential computing environments that can be supported by a shared user interface system. The key research questions driving this proposal are thus:1. Can we develop a common set of abstractions to allow co-operation to be supported across a range of different interactive devices?2. Can we develop mechanisms and facilities to allow these different devices adapt to the demands of the user, the co-operative setting and the nature of the devices being used to access the co-operative application?3. Can we develop a set of guidelines for the development of co-operative applications that need to support users access from a range of interactive devices?
