Summary on Grant Application Form |
Within this project we plan to carry out theoretical and experimental studies of novel types of high-power diode lasers that incorporate curved grating structures that are designed to provide enhanced spatial and spectral control. Specifically, we propose to design, fabricate and assess the performance of so-called c-DFB and c-DBR lasers that operate in the ~1W power regime. In addition to fully characterising and optimising the lasers in the 670, 850, 980nm spectral regions (i.e. AlGaIn, AlGaAs, InGaAs material systems) we intend to evaluate the applicability of these novel laser systems in the optical pumping of laser gain media and in frequency -up/down-conversion in quasi-phasematched nonlinear optical crystals such as periodically-poled or aperiodically-poled lithium niobate.
