Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is for the dual purpose magnetometer, working at low fields (0.01 to 500Oe) and at high fields (0 to 9T). The programme is dedicated to the study of the magnetic properties of magnetic thin films and devices, superconductors, and nanostructured materials. These are all classes of materials attracting much interest and promise for future technological developments. In particular we will study magnetic interactions between rare earths and 3d transitions metals in multilayers, the exchange interaction between antiferromagnets and 3d transition metals in spin valves and the interactions between magnetic nanoparticles. The superconductivity work will concentrate on investigations of the magnetic phase diagram, flux trapping and paramagnetic impurity densities of small single crystal samples. Finally we will study the magnetic behaviour of organic magnetic systems such as polyarylamines.
