Summary on Grant Application Form
The objectives of this proposal are to further research in areas directly related to XRF analysis (specifically, sample preparation methods for and innovative applications of XRF) and to support areas of research that rely on XRF analysis for basic data, in particular:- development of novel sample preparation methods for XRF to enable cheap and convenient analysis of samples- characterisation of materials and analysis of test products for evaluating separation performance by selective flocculation- characterisation of alumino-silicate source materials and the products following conversion to synthetic zeolites- characterisation of pollutants associated with mine sites and waste disposal sites- analysis of samples for mineral resource assessment, especially stochastic modelling and prediction of mineral concentrations- risk assessment associated with mineral extraction and waste disposal- the analysis of solid samples for the monitoring and design of landfill sites- modelling of fluid-mineral interactions in soils and weathered rock to monitor and control contaminant migration- analysis of material sused for sensor development- solvent extraction of base metals, potash and the leaching of oxide and sulphide ores- effluent treatment using low cost absorbents and the recycling of metals from effluents, wastes and sludges
