Summary on Grant Application Form |
The purpose of this proposal is to develop a general powerful material model which can be incorporated into existing time-domain electromagnetic simulation codes such as TLM. The model will be capable of describing the most general form of material constitutive relations including tensor electric permittivity, magnetic permeability and magnetoelectric coefficients. For the most general case the solver will also be capable of describing non-linear and time-varying material properties. In addition to these capabilities the model will include the option of describing novel composite materails which exhibit a combination of electric and magnetic propoerties and may contain additional elements such as small loops or dipoles dispersed inside the matieral matrix. These materials, which may be described as structured or intellignet, offer the scope for tailoring and optimisation of the material to the application and are therefore of great practical interest. The models developed will be applied to screened room damping in the first instance but also to the design of novel microwave components and problems in electromagnetic metrology.
