Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research programme is aimed at conceiving and developing a model and simulation of the electroplating process that will enable plating thickness to be accurately predicted and the output quality improved. Following an extensive information search, no papers describing such a model could be found. It is thus considered that the proposed work could give UK industry a world lead. The proposed work builds on previous process modelling research by the applicants, particularly that of modelling the electrochemical machining process and an industrially sponsored feasibility study into modelling the electroplating process. The work will involve the development of a finite element based computer model and industrial experimentation and testing for its validation. The use of the model will also be evaluated by optimising an existing plating system and by proposing alternative plating systems designs.
