Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Platform grant would enable the Control and Instrumentation Group at the University of Leicester to support a long term campaign to make significant advances in:1. Integrated flight and propulsion control.2. Full authority fly-by-wire helicopter control.3. Implementation, flight clearance and airworthiness issues. In 1, the aim of the integrated approach is (i) to provide optimal performance of the overall integrated system; and (ii) to reduce implementation and maintenance costs through decentralised controllers with simple structures designed using relatively simple techniques. In 2, attention will focus on (i) improving the fidelity of the rotor model, the main source of inaccuracies which currently limit achievable levels of decoupling, and (ii) scheduling mechanisms to extend performance across the flight envelope. In 3, new visualisation tools and analysis methods will be developed to assess a controller against known parameter variations and different aircraft/store configurations.
