The proposed equipment will enhance research in the field of structural engineering materials at Strathclyde University, which involves metals, ceramics and composites such as ceramic-ceramic and metal-metal composites. This covers the main research activities of Professor Baker and Hendry in the Metallurgy and Engineering Materials Group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, inter-departmental projects with the Departments of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Chemistry with materials interests and involves - 30 personnel. Also a major inter-university project with the University of Glasgow has recently commenced.
