Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose the synthesis of a range of new chiral non-racemic ligand environments based on a biaryldiamine backbone elaborated with further ligand groups to form quadridentate chelates. The structures of the lanthanide complexes formed from these ligands will be such that the chirality of the system is very well expressed, particularly in the region of the co-ligand sites, leading to high enantioselectivities in the subsequent catalytic processes. In order to progress rationally in terms of catalyst design and performance the complexes will be fully characterised, particularly by X-ray diffraction. An enantioselective catalytic intramolecular hydroamination of a range of aminoalkene compounds leading to chiral heterocycles will be developed, based on promising preliminary results. This will be carried out through systematic catalyst synthesis, testing, product analysis and feedback cycles.Once this catalytic process is established, we will continue by extension of the technology to the more demanding processes of catalytic enantioselective tandem amination/cyclisation and intermolecular hydroamination of alkenes.
