|
During the past decade, a range of urological research projects have been discussed between the Principal Investigator and the academic Co-Investigators, particularly on the subject of innovative devices for managing loss of normal bladder control. The LINK programme has provided financial support for collaborative interdisciplinary projects: in 1992 from the Medical implant programme grant and in 1997 from a MedLINK grant which will be completed in September 2000. Technology transfer and brainstorming meetings are now required to advance this field of R&D, focusing on three study groups, namely:i. The urine/biomaterial interface: to investigate the problems associated with biofilm and encrustation.ii. Device Design of user-friendly and unobtrusive products: to address the needs of those with loss of normal bladder control.iii. Clinical Methods: to explore minimally invasive techniques under sedo-analgesia for introducing/fitting new and existing devices as day cars procedures.
