We will study the effects of organised particle monolayers, at one or both surfaces in thin liquid films, on the film stability. The structure and surface concentration of particles, (p, in monolayers will be controlled using particles exhibiting mutual lateral repulsion. Configurations will include those where the required (p, (at an oil/water or air/water interface) is obtained (i) by compression of the monolayer on a Langmuir trough, (ii) by retraction of particle-covered pendent drops, whose tension can be measured and (iii) forming an interface containing particles in a funnel so (p, can be adjusted by altering the interface level.
