Summary on Grant Application Form |
This application seeks funding for an X-ray powder diffractometer. XRPD will allow routine characterisation and identification of polycrystalline powders to be carried out but primarily will enable two principal research projects:Project A: Crystallisation and polymorphism in oligosaccharide ester derivatives; specifically, correlating the structural and physical properties of these compounds in the context of their use in controlled-delivery of pharmaceutical active agents.Project B: Crystal structures from laboratory XRPD data; NOT the development of software tools for crystal structure solution, but the application of proven structure-solving methods to problems where single crystals cannot be obtained. Specific targets include zopiclone and norfloxacin, and objectives include the development of guidelines on optimising data collection and processing, with a view to maximising the chances of structure solution.
