The proposed research is based on incorporating a phase change material (PCM) within a fluidised and sealed double glazed panel, integrated into the building fabric. The PCM is contained in micro-capsules with spherical shapes and made from thin conductive shells, which are carried within a fluid such as water. The double glazed panel containing the PCM-water mixture is linked to a piping system extended to run through a thermal storage unit located within the building. The glazed panel is also sloped by 45 deg from horizontal, which is an appropriate angle for architectural reasons as well as for energy collection and transfer. In terms of energy collection efficiency, the collector slope is normally fixed at an angle equal to the site latitude. As the United Kingdom is bound by latitudes 50 and 60 deg, the chosen angle is quite close to the UK latitude range. The water medium will be coloured using a specific dye mixture, to increase the absorptivity of water to solar radiation passing through the system, in winter. The PCM capsules on the other hand, will also be covered with a permanent dark colour for the same reason. It is anticipated that a pump will be needed
