Summary on Grant Application Form |
AKT assembles a strong set of researchers to tackle fundamental associated with the management of knowledge. It will develop a range of technologies, methods and services to meet the six challenges of acquisition, modelling, retrieval, publishing and maintenance of knowledge. The IRC would undertake fundamental research in particular knowledge technologies but it would also bring together relevant work and produce practical results. The proposal has attracted an enthusiastic response from industry, and will provide timely support to the growth of the knowledge economy. Though much of the focus of the proposal is on innovative research, an integrated and relevant approach will be ensured by the employment of testbed applications. These testbeds are real-world problems that demand knowledge services across AKT's whole range; in other words, technological solutions will be required for each of the six knowledge challenges. The benefits of the knowledge management technologies which AKT would develop will increase with the recognition of the importance of the competitive advantage of knowledge. AKT technology will help organisations to take total control of the knowledge they contain, to convert unstructured information into usable knowledge, and to pass on and quantify knowledge as any other resource or asset.
