The outlined project will focus on proving a novel way of generating a high efficiency dynamic loading to be used in percussive downhole drilling. In this concept, the drill bit is exerting controllable dynamic impacts on the drilled formation generated by a beat signal in order to1) improve drilling rates (up to ten times for the hard rock formations) and2) reduce the tool wearTo investigate this attractive concept preliminary confirmed in Aberdeen, it is proposed to conduct in-depth theoretical and experimental studies on a small-scale model rig.
