The project comprises three main elements: a major lecture demonstration programme; a series of physical scier masterclasses/5th and 6th year symposiums and training sessions for teachers.The GUSTO Science Circus currently includes five lecture demonstration shows that relate directly to EPSR However, to meet the demands of the market we need to expand the number of presenters and modify these materials. new EPSRC 'Frontiers' show would also be developed as part of the project. It is intended that we would present these shows to an audience of - 30,000/year during schools outreach, major festivals, and INSET.The 5th/6th year Masterclasses and teacher INSET would be run in association with several EPSRC groups, using similar model to the particle physics masterclasses that are well established at Glasgow. These sessions would designed to encourage an awareness of several areas of EPSRC research. They would be carefully planned a delivered, presenting complex research in an effective manner. A mixture of historical background and entertaini lecture demonstration, hands-on workshops would present a clear progression of ideas.Our aim would be to promote the physical sciences and the frontier research of EPSRC to schools and the wid community. An important element of the project is the close co-operation between specialist EPSRC staff and studen with the full-time PUS (GUSTO) team, in the development and delivery of the programme.Preliminary discussions with several University of Glasgow EPRSC groups, has indicated considerable support for the project. In addition, there is an existing collaborative dialogue with all West of Scotland universities and strong lin with the Glasgow Science Centre Millennium Project. Whilst it is intended to be a Glasgow project initially, these lin offer the potential to expand this project across Scotland.
