Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to study interaction effects in carbon nanotubes and several quasi-1D magnetic compounds.Carbon nanotubes: We will develop a theory of heat transport and electro-elastic effects in carbon nanotubes. We will study how nanotubes coupled to other nano-objects like large molecules. We will investigate physical properties like electric conductivity of such configurations.Incommensuration from frustration: We will further develop our theory of the emergence of incommensuration from frustration in spin-1/2 magnetic compounds. Combining perturbative techniques and bosonization, we will investigate the magnetic phase diagram and excitation spectrum of SrCu02 and Cs2CuC14.Antiferromagnetism and disorder: We will develop our theory for doping effects in the spin-Peierls insulator CuGe03 in order to understand better the emergence of antiferromagnetism as well as the recently discovered re-entrance phenomena.1D-3D crossover and ordered phase: We will develop a theory for the experimentally observed damping of the longitudinal ode in KCuF3 based on our effective theory of weakly coupled Heisenberg chains.
