Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project seeks to address several generic problems in selective oxidation catalysis on metal oxides. We will attempt, for the first time, to image `Active Sites' on the surface of model oxide catalysts at atomic resolution with STNI. We will combine this with kinetics measured on powdered, high surface area materials. We will also investigate the role of oxygen vacancies at the surface, and the nature of the active sites for selective oxidation and for combustion. We will carry out reactor measurements on both high area powdered oxide samples and on single crystals, and use TPD as a kinetic identifier for common active sites between the two materials.
