Summary on Grant Application Form |
I will develop new methods of Kinematic Simulation (KS) and Rapid Distortion Theory (RDT) to study one and two-particle dispersion in non-isotropic and non-homogeneous turbulence flows such as stably stratified turbulence, turbulence with rotation, turbulence in a shear flow and turbulence near boundaries. KS are Lagrangian models of dispersion that incorporate turbulent-like flow structure, they are therefore ideally suited to serve as subgrid models for LES. I will develop new LES approaches using KS as a scalar subgrid for LES of scalar diffusion. This combination of LES and KS will be used to carry out Lagrangian studies at high Reynolds numbers. To help relate Lagrangian intermittency to Eulerian intermittency and Lagrangian velocity correlations to Eulerian velocity correlation and get insight to possible applications of the Lagrangian modellings to Eulerian numerical simulations, new wavelet methods will be developed in order to be easily implementable to all different sources of data. These methods will be used on a wide range of data to investigate relations between the topology of the small-scale turbulence structure and fundamental properties such as Lagrangian and Eulerian power spectra.EngProg\
