Summary on Grant Application Form |
Using parameters obtained from published test data, sophisticated material models will be encoded in FE/FD analysis programs, as appropriate, for the 3D numerical analysis of shotcrete. The models will be trialled on the back-analysis of large-scale tests from the Brite Euram project. With the refined sprayed concrete model and building on recent research in the analysis of tunnels by Professor Clayton, 3D numerical analysis of a tunnel heading will be undertaken and the results compared to instrumentation data obtained in the course of recent research on the Heathrow Express project.Recommendations will be made on the merits of the models investigated, how they may be best used in numerical analysis and how more realistic estimates of the stress distribution in tunnel linings can be obtained, as well as the effects of early loading on durability.EngProg\
