Summary on Grant Application Form
The numerical solution of elastohydrodyamic lubrication (EHL) problems is of great importance m the oil and automotive industries. Despite great progress in computing numerical solutions the present need is for still greater numerical reliability and for greater efficiency using parallel computers. The construction of a Problem Solving Environment (PSE) based upon advanced computational science techniques will make it possible to solve present problems more quickly and reliably using adaptive meshes and parallel computing, introduce computational steering and make it much easier to solve future problems using more reliable and efficient methods based upon more rigorous error estimates.
