One of the main problems encountered in CDMA for mobile communications, is the near-far problem, which due to inability of detection, results in residual multiple access interference (MAI) and consequently limitation in the system capacity. There has been a number work published on Interference Cancellation techniques, however, they all either ignore the existence of channel decoder, or fading channel and system dynamics. The great complexity of the Interference Cancellation technique, reported so far, has made them less attractive for commercial implementation. In this proposal, we are proposing a new detection architecture which exploits the decoding architecture of Turbo decoders and uses IC as an integral part of the decoder. For IC, we are proposing a partial parallel multi-stage IC with capability to adapt itself to radio link dynamics. The IC is a sub-optimum solution and its integration with Turbo Decoder is expected to reduce the combined complexity of both whilst increasing their overall performance. The architecture is novel in the way that the two sub-systems are integrated and the way that it isolates the propagation of errors between different stages. The adaptivity of the architecture is another novelty of the work which alone is a major breakthrough in the concept of IC techniques in support of stable QoS. For proof of the concept, we will use the channel parameters and services of the UMTS wideband CDMA (FDD mode).
