The project concerns investigation of a continuous flow horizontal annular photoreactor using a relatively large particle size of reactivity-enhanced titanium dioxide photocatalyst. A main objective will be to achieve pollutant destruction to harmless or easily biodegradable components. Emphasis is to be placed on understanding the hydrodynamic and optical properties of the catalyst at different concentrations. Currently there is a serious lack of data and experience of operating large-scale photoreactors - work to date has been on laboratory-scale batch reactors or flow systems which appear impracticable to scale up sensibly and economically. Our experience with industrial uv lamps in various dispositions and the recent development of a catalyst suitable for engineering use has led us to this proposal to develop equipment suitable for individual industrial sites.EngProg\
