Summary on Grant Application Form |
We aim to set up a network of researchers whose expertise is in the area of photoabsorption of molecules in the gas phase. The groups involved will come together at two meetings every year over a period of three years, with the aim of identifying new avenues of research making use of the opportunities offered by the new generation of synchrotron radiation sources. The project is interdisciplinary and it will seek new possibilities for applications of the techniques used by the Network groups in the areas of environmental chemistry, astrophysics and the gas phase/solid state interface. New kinds of experiments, in which advantage is taken of the high degree of linear and circular polarisation available in the radiation produced by the new light sources, will be identified with particular attention being paid to chiral molecules. Theoreticians will be invited to participate in the Network meetings in order to stimulate new theoretical work relevant to the research programmes of the Network groups. The role of both synchrotron radiation and laser light sources will be included in the programme.
