Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed work will involve researchers at the University of Leeds designing and fabricating high-quality tellurite glass samples for PCF fabrication at BATH. These will be prepared as necessary and used to form photonic crystal fibre preforms, which will then be drawn down at Bath to form PCFs for characterisation of modes. The transparency window of tellurite extends out to wavelengths beyond 6 um. In the FEASIBILITY STUDY PHASE, we aim to demonstrate a PCF structure for testing guided the modes waveguide, which we aim to demonstrate by the end of a 12 month feasibility study project. If the FEASIBILITY PHASE of the project proves successful by meeting the objective described above, Leeds and Bath would ask EPSRC to consider for a 3-year funding at the end of the feasibility studies. We also want to point out that the in-kind equipment support from Bae would be utilised beyond the feasibility phase. The support from DERA has been reduced to one year equivalent.
