Summary on Grant Application Form |
Despite the current proliferation of interest in alkene metathesis, the only catalytic, asymmetric versions of this reaction have been in ring opening methahesis polymerisations and kinetic resolutions. Although one example of asymmetric ring closing metathesis of an achiral triene has been reported, it remains to be developed into a synthetically viable procedure. This research aims to address these omissions by utilising the constraints of a cyclic system to allo enantio-induction in the ring closure of achiral trienes. In this way an array of optically active carbo- and heterocycles will be prepared.
