This proposal seeks funding to develop a new course based on the existing MPhil in Computer Speech and Language Processing. The aims of the new course are to: Teach the fundamental theory and engineering practice of speech and language processing Focus explicitly on Internet-related applications of spoken and textual language technology Extend the structure to allow for part-time attendance and distance learning EPSRC funding is requested for student support, module development, equipment for remote delivery of teaching material, and marketing. A high priority is to increase industrial funding for the course and by the end of the five year funding period, the course plans to be self-sufficient
