Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose a multi-disciplinary Masters Training Package in Urban Land and Water. The course aims to deliver masters level training in risk-based methods to assess, restore and manage the environmental quality of urban land and water for urban regeneration. We propose to link the existing centre of excellence in groundwater protection at The University of Sheffield with the Sheffield Management School, the Dept. of Chemistry and departmental strengths in urban drainage and water quality in order to expand our current range of research-led commercial CPD courses. We are seeking EPSRC pump-priming funds to convert 4 existing CPD courses, 6 existing MSc modules and to create 6 new modules as a full MSc curriculum that is self financing within 4 years. Taught modules will run as intensive short courses to retain the flexibility of CPD training to employers. Credit accumulation for post-graduate qualifications will be achieved by including web based distance learning, industry-linked project work and formal assessment. Available qualifications include CPD credits, Post-Graduate Certificate, Post-Graduate Diploma, or, with suitable dissertation work, a full MSc.
