Summary on Grant Application Form |
This application is designed to support research activity arising from the MILLE and MILLE/FT projects. As the projects developed, it became apparent that Indian languages were poorly served with language engineering resources - both in general terms (provision of word-processing software etc) and specifically with respect to corpus building work. As work on MILLE began to focus increasingly on Indian languages, the need to audit language engineering activities on the Indian sub-continent grew. This audit was undertaken largely at a distance, though the MILLE/FT project allowed some direct checking of work in Sri Lanka, and provided invaluable experience of undertaking such review work to the principal applicant of this project. On MILLEFT2 I want to travel to the sub-continent to meet with key players identified by MILLE, finalise arrangements for data sharing and to check on any work unknown to MILLE.
