The work to be carried out at Southampton University will involve a series of experiments involving triboelectric (contact) charging of various commercially available paint powders. These powders will be charged using both a pneumatic transfer loop and mechanical vibrator system. Charge to mass (Q/M) ratios of these powders will be measured using a cascade series array of Faraday Pails as well as the differential charging system in use at Southampton University. Comparisons of these techniques will be a useful addition to the literature since both types of measurement are difficult to make and interpret. Size analysis will be carried out for each sample using a Malvern Analyser. In addition, surface structure measurements using scanning electron microscopy and selected chemical analyses will be carried out using facilities at the University and at UWO.
