Polymer Materials Science and Engineering is multidisciplinary requiring knowledge and skills in the fields of polymer sysnthesis, molecular and morphological chatacterisation of polymers in relation to physical properties, polymer processing , and engineering and design with polymers. The aim of the proposed MTP in PMSE is to provide a full and part-time modular scheme giving flexible access to scientists and engineers wishing to develop their professional competence in this multidisciplinary subject area at prostgraduate Masters level. Notable features of this MTP are its modern approach, breadth and modularity, enabling registrants from a variety of science and engineering backgrounds to select at will from topics that cover all aspects of PMSE required in the polymer industry.The objectives for the 5-year period of EPSRC support will be (1) establishment of a new modular masters-level postgraduate training provision to give a steady state of 20 fte. registrations, with Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Diploma and MSc uptake, (2) conversion of modules to web-based learning packages, (3) the development and integration of key inputs from local and national companies in to a Industrial Club, and (4) achievement of self-sustaining financial status.
