Summary on Grant Application Form
Optics is one of the world top five growth markets. The proposed training package provides flexible and highquality postgraduate training within abroad syllabus of applied and modern optics that is designed to be easily accessible and relevant to those in employment and to the national need. This will be achieved through the development of 1 I modules that are created to be delivered via distance learning, taking full advantage of the Internet, together with short `summer school' style practical sessions offered with a choice of dates. Students will be able to study individual modules for CPD purposes, or to build up 8 module credits to qualify for a Diploma, with the option of then undertaking a dissertation project to qualify for an MSc. Full-time study will also continue to be available. The objectives for the 42 months of EPSRC funding are to develop these modules and place the course package onto a self-sustaining footing.
