Summary on Grant Application Form |
This is a 12 month course for students who have a good first degree with a substantial mathematical content. It can be taken in one year. The MTP will train students in the modern theory and methods of applied mathematics, including computational mathematics, and will bridge theory and practice. It will give students a basic grounding in an applied discipline with modules in mathematics, biology and engineering. It will teach students how to apply mathematics, working both individually and in teams, to solve problems of an interdisciplinary nature, many of which will have originated in industry. The students will collaborate closely with experts from other disciplines such as engineering and biology and with a wide variety of industrialists, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of mathematics and its ability to transfer ideas rapidly from one subject to another. The students will learn the methodology of research, problem solving and transferable skills.
