Summary on Grant Application Form |
Significant progress has been made in the field of solid particle erosion of materials in flowing aqueous conditions in the past decade and the UK has been in the forefront of such developments. However, because of the complexity of the problem which involves many variables, there are several gaps in the understanding of the materials loss mechanisms. The objective of this network is to assemble the main researchers in the UK in this area together with representatives from industry. The network will provide a dissemination route to industry for new developments and an important forum for exchange of ideas for the academics involved. The regional spread of the collaborators ensures that a diverse range of industrial applications will be included in the remit and the inclusion of international associate members from different continents will enhance the understanding of issues on a wider scale. Research topics which will be addressed will include new developments in mathematical models, mechanistic aspects of erosion-corrosion and the use of state-of-the-art electrochemical equipment to monitor the damage process. A database will be set up to identify and target companies which may need assistance for such problems. Reproducibility of test facilities will also be addressed.
