Summary on Grant Application Form |
There are two parts of this proposal which include theoretical and numerical work and applications. Theoretical part includes asymptotic analysis of the following problems: (a) eigenvalue problems for dilute arrays of inclusions; (b) study of arrays of elastic inclusions which are close to touching; (c) dynamics of inclusions which are of high contrast to the matrix; (d) analysis of systems of coated cylinders, and the transition to imperfect interface boundary conditions with decreasing coating thickness.Numerical part includes the following elements: (a) analysis of phonic band gaps for square and hexagonal arrays; (b) the influence of disorder of the system on the phonic band structure; (c) analysis of long-wave effects, homogenisation and the correspondence between dynamics and static fields. Generalisations are envisaged to the cases of scattering of elastic waves by finite systems and to models of lattice effects.
