Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the research is to develop a consistent mass-conserving physical model of microelastohydrodynamic lubrication under condition sin which part of the load in a lubricated contact is carried by hydrodynamic forces and the remainder by solid or nominally dry or boundary lubricated contact. Such mixed conditions occur in important machine elements such as gears and variable-ratio traction drives, and a soundly based physical model of the mechanism of mixed lubrication will significantly aid the design of these components.
