Summary on Grant Application Form |
Across many business sectors, a distinctive feature of recent economic conditions has been the growing importance of supply chain management. This has arisen as a critical issue for a number of reasons including competitive advantages to be gained from focus on core capabilities for individual economic units and the advantages to be gained from collaborative endeavour between multiple units with their own unique qualities of distinct knowledge, resources and cost. It has been observed that increasingly competition is occurring between supply chains rather than between stand-alone enterprises. An aspect so far largely neglected however is the issue of customer-responsiveness - ie the ability to cope with shortened product life cycles and the fragmentation in formerly standard products in an agile and appropriate way. This has become a new and vital management priority reliant on an integrated response using both technical and organisational capabilities.EngProg\
