The proposed research will address the application of formal modelling and analysis to mobile and multimedia systems, and will focus on the problems of feature interactions between different services. The problem of feature interactions in traditional telecommunications services has long been recognised. aS the telecom industry quickly evolves from traditional services to more advanced new services, the potential for feature interactions between services will undoubtedly explode. Much of the added complexity will come from the move to support Internet and multimedia services, and services designed (or adapted) specifically for mobile systems.The research will address various new and emerging types of feature interaction that are likely to arise from the increasing popularity of mobile systems and services. A secondary, but still important goal will be to address IP-based services and multimedia services. Crucially, several key concepts are associated with mobility, including context-awareness and adaptability. Services that support such concepts have only recently been conceived and are just starting to be implemented. However, to date, very little research relating to these fields has been seen in the feature/service interaction community and the formal methods community, the proposed research will address the application of formal modelling and analysis in this area.
