Summary on Grant Application Form |
The DPW method of studying constant man curvature ( CMC ) surfaces in proving to be useful in understanding those surfaces which are immersions of a multiply punctured sphere which ends asymptotic to a Delaunay surface. The DPW data has been encoded in software designed by Dr Nick Schmidt at GANG and the experimental use of this software has already lead to new results. Experimental evidence suggests that the glueing of surface ( along common Deaunay ends ) can also be achieved using the DPW approach. The proposer intends to work with members of the GANG on better understanding the results of such experiments with a view to formulating a theory which will describe how to produce certain surface topologies using DPW data. There is also the possibility of adapting these methods (as well as the DPWlab software ) to minimal surfaces in the 3-sphere: this project will also be considered.
