The project will assess the potential contribution of coding theory to the design of hopping lists for frequency hopping radios and mobile telephones. When static frequency assignment is replaced by frequency hopping, the assignment problem can be viewed as a two stage process: assignment of lists to transmitters and assignment of hopping sequences. The focus will be on the first stage, specifically on the generation of sets of lists with minimum overlap. This will minimise interference. The aim will be to demonstrate that the use of coding theory will give better lists than current techniques.
